My Superheroes

Jessica Voorsanger

Artist Jessica Voorsanger lead a series of workshops with the children in the Royal London Hospital wards. Through six interactive workshops with the young patients, questions of identity and aspirations were explored to create both a comic book publication for children at the Royal London Hospital and a large-scale wall based artwork.

Patients wrote and illustrated comics, developing plots through fun, social games such as Consequences, Head Bodies and Legs, and Fortune Tellers, and developing characters through a selection of costumes, wigs, masks and accessories. Young patients drew portraits and took portraiture photos of each other in costume, for the publication.

Outcomes and evaluation

Large scale prints of the comic book are installed on the 7th floor of the new children’s hospital.
