Paediatrics Surgical Waiting Areas. 6th Floor, Royal London Hospital

In the Paediatric waiting areas at the Royal London Claire Powell has delivered a playful graphic design strategy to prevent costly last minute cancellations when patients fail to fast prior to procedures. Her formidable, but friendly, frogs give a clear message that discourages eating.

Powell’s characters merrily police the area. Nowhere is safe from their beady eyes – they peek around every corner, pop up behind chairs and snoop around reception. The cast communicate directly to visitors with playful, humorous language.

Claire is an illustrator, writer and designer who lives and works in London. She spent several years as a design director in the world of channel rebranding working for clients such as Nickelodeon, BBC Three, CBBC and BBC One. Claire has written, directed and animated a hand drawn short film called The Scapegoat which won Best Short Film at the British Animation Awards 2015.
