Library of Unwritten Books

Artists Sam and Caroline

Library of Unwritten Books is a collection of possible books. Artists Sam and Caroline spent November and December recording interviews with chemotherapy patients about the book they would like to write.  Participants talked about their ideas, thoughts, dreams and life experiences in interviews.  The artists recorded twelve stories, and these transcripts have now been published in limited edition mini books.  Copies have been given to each participant and the Library is available for other patients and visitors to enjoy in the chemotherapy waiting area. The collection has been added to the library collection to tour the UK and is archived at the Mass Observation Archive.

This project provided patients with a positive distraction from their treatment and the environment.  It gave patients the opportunity to spend time with the artists, to tell their stories, and to be a part of a high quality art project.
