Baby Steps (pilot)
The Line
Developed in partnership with The Line, Baby Steps is a creative health initiative designed to support new and expectant mothers throughout their pregnancy and early motherhood journey. Combining gentle creative activities and nature-based walks, Baby Steps offers a welcoming space to relax, connect, and enhance wellbeing.
About Baby Steps
Becoming a new mum can be joyful but also challenging - especially for those facing language barriers, or limited access to support. Baby Steps provides an inclusive, nurturing environment where mothers can engage with others, learn new skills, and enjoy the benefits of spending time in nature.
Our programme is run in collaboration with The Line and funded by the Transport for London Walking and Cycling Grant. The core of Baby Steps is a series of community nature walks designed to fit flexibly around the needs of new mums.
Join a friendly group of mums for gentle walks through parks and green spaces around Newham, including Stratford, East Ham, and Wanstead. These walks encourage physical activity, social connection, and time outdoors in a supportive setting.
Who Can Join?
Baby Steps is open to all new and expectant mothers living in Newham, including those who:
Are at any stage of pregnancy or up to six months postpartum.
Want to meet other mums and make connections.
Are interested in gentle exercise and creative wellbeing activities.
Would like to learn more about local support services.

Who are The Line?
The Line is an ambitious public art project that connects Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and The O2, following the waterways and the line of the Greenwich Meridian. Along the route, artworks by leading contemporary artists are set within the landscape, inviting the public to experience art and nature together. Through creative programmes like Baby Steps, The Line aims to make art and culture accessible to all, supporting community wellbeing and engagement.
