Artists may work for several months in a hospital department, bringing fresh ideas and an innovative approach to meeting that department’s particular needs. Each project will have different aims according to its setting. Artists Officina Humana, worked alongside resident artist Ginny Carvisiglia and the Teaching Unit School Room of the Royal London Hospital and won second prize in a national photography award and were runners up in the Inspirational Drawing Awards for their project, which aimed to help children produce positive self-images to deal with their experiences of being in hospital and to celebrate their creativity. The artists helped the children to use torches to illuminate themselves and others and then to make long exposure photographs of the light paths that are colourful, uplifting and energised. The results looked beautiful – instant results with the qualities of a painting – and the children were thrilled with their work. “Everyone came away on a high…….the happiness of the kids was truly something that was quite overwhelming for some of us” |
