ART AND ENVIRONMENT

Barts and The London Trust is embarking on the ambitious and much needed redevelopment of The Royal London and the creation of a specialist cancer and cardiac centre at Barts. Work is already underway on three advance projects and the preferred bidder for the major PFI scheme will be announced shortly.

From the outset, art has been seen as an essential element in the creation of staff and patient-centred environments. The striking 18 x 50 metre Julian Opie image I dreamt I was driving in my car (country road 2002) which hangs in front of the scaffolding on the West Wing at Barts is the first of a series of major commissions for the new Breast Cancer Centre.

In addition Martin Richman has been appointed as lead artist for the new Pathology and Pharmacy Building and six photographers are producing work for the new Kenton & Lucas Building.
