Vital Arts is delighted to announce its new Artist-in-Residence programme to develop new work in response to Barts and The London.
Artists are given special access to the current buildings and the Trust's extensive museum collection, in addition to use of a small studio. The first artist to take up this opportunity is Anka Dabrowska who is interested in how the public intersect with the urban landscape. The Royal London, one of busiest hospitals in the UK is a complex public realm setting and offers itself as a fascinating topic for Anka Dabrowska. We look forward to seeing the results at the completion of her residency in December 2011.

Deepa Chudasama will also be joining as an Artist-in-Residence. She will study the patterns of traffic flow through the hospital campus, mapping this movement and translating the information into a site-specific commissioned artwork to be installed in one of the high profile reception areas in the new building.
Meanwhile photographer Edgar Hoefs is beginning a six month Residency at the Royal London to develop a series of portrait photographs of hospital staff. The large format colour images will be exhibited in the new building, marking the transition from the old building to the new hospital.
