Music Research Project

Vital Arts has been awarded a research grant by Barts and The London Charity to deliver a year-long pilot project.  Working with Maternity Services and the Orthopaedic Surgery team, we will evaluate the impact of recorded music on patient's pain and anxiety levels whilst undergoing treatment at The Royal London Hospital.  Vital Arts and a commissioned composer-in-residence will work with patients to create a Music Bank.  The Music Bank will include a series of new compositions designed to provide a positive distraction for patients undergoing treatment.  The results of these clinical trials will be disseminated in partnership with our project partner the Public Engagement Foundation in 2012.  We hope the results will lead to the greater use of music by healthcare organisations to aid patient well being.
